I’m wanting to add a fish to my newly setup frag tank. Dimensions 36”x24”x10”. The water depth is at 9”. It’s bare bottom with no lid. I could add a rock if needed. I have a Mexican turbo snail and 3 astrea snails and plan on getting a few trochus for the algae. I’m thinking that would be sufficient. If not, maybe a lawnmower blenny. Would like something else that looks a little nicer if possible

Wow that’s shallow perhaps a cardinal?

for me, a pair of skunk cleaner shrimp since they are fun to watch and active usually, plus if they decide to breed it feeds to corals a treat. After that perhaps 6 yellow tail damsels or azure damsels.... cheap but they eat pests and in a school are rather active plus if they go all superman on ya....cheap to replace

Yeah I've seen most fish at lfs in lowboy frag tanks. Like @KrisReef id highly reccomend putting a lid on it first.
Before you do that though id try to figure out how to get some rock in the tank for whatever fish you decide to add. May want to look at fish that will do work like maybe a wrasse for critters and along those lines.
I had to get creative and stack my back walls with liverock for that purpose.

LMB WILL jump - actually any blenny is a bad idea in a shallow/no lid. I lost two (lmb/tail spot) in my frag tank due to jumping very quickly :(

I don't know a great utilitarian fish that would work in the shallows, but clowns would likely be safe

How about a pair of captive-bred orchid dottybacks? They're rock dwellers and, as such, will feel comfortable in that space...and probably go after quite a few rock-dwelling pests. Mine certainly seem to enjoy the bristleworms.

I think the 24x36 floor space is fine and if kept open you should be able to comfortably stock it intelligently and comfortably for the fish you choose.

Freshwater mollies. I have some golden pandas in my biocube. And a sailfin in my 40b frag tank.

Scooter blends. Be kool to watch em all run around. Reds and blacks. Also the tiny little blennys with the 1 blue stripe. Lol
Idk what else with out a lid I think ur asking for carpet surfers.

Newbie question but why would you want fish in your frag tank? (Algae control? Other?)
*seems like possibility of introducing fish-related diseases/parasites (after grow out) into your DT or to whomever you give/sell your frags would make "going fish-less" a definite benefit???
