What fixed your Dino’s

Just looking to see what helped others Dino’s.

Water change. The first pic I was doing water change and the place where I was getting my water from was giving me bad Ro water , so I took a sample of their water to my other spot and it was bad . So after a month of constant water change eventually my tank cleared up .

I had that nasty stuff in my tank for months and I lost interest because I was doing water change and nothing was helping, but even though I was doing water change , putting back bad Ro water was like not doing any water change at all .

Nice change. You sure those were dinos and not diatoms?

I thought the same thing. Water changes would fuel Dino’s.

Some say it was Dino & some say it was diatoms honestly I don’t know for sure what it was . But I changed my water supply and it eventually starting to change . Because at night it would disappear and as soon the light comes on it would come back .

Over time I was able to reduce dosing as it took less and less to keep levels stable. After a month or so I could stop nitrate dosing and maybe 8 weeks later stopped phosphate

In my 12 gallon biocube, got rid of the sand and added ceramic biomedia to one chamber. The media was first seeded in my display by leaving it in the sump for a few weeks.

The right answer is nutrients for a long time to let GHA and other algae out compete. Unfortunately that means itll get even uglier until that balance is reached. Blackouts help fight it temporarily.

I would strongly urge anyone that think they have dinos to confirm it with a microscope. You can get a cheap one if you don't have access to one. Post a picture in the dino thread in the Nuisance Algae forum. Some species are in the water column and are greatly helped by UV. Some are not.

Pretty sure you had diatoms. Diatoms die once silica is gone. And since you changed your water supply the silicate was also gone. 0 tds water wont have silicate in it. Dinoflagellets are a different beast. They dont need silicate. Not even sure what they need but seem to grow from nothing. They form long stringy bubbles and if you shake them up they will grow back in a matter of minutes because they swim.

Trust me I was scared at first, but after reading a lot I found i only had to dose .003ml per gallon. And in my case it was only .3ml once a day for 4 days. Every day the Dino's were half what they were the day before. After 3 days they were completely gone. I still dosed the 4th day to be sure. What even suprised me was the fact the corals seemed to love it. I had great polyp extension and could even see better colors on my sps. I would not hesitate dosing it again.
