Kinda silly but my mom took a beta home that was a centerpiece at a wedding I wanted it in my room and she said no, so i bought a 10 gallon and a handful of fish. Quickly got bored after going to reef shop and seeing reef tanks. Quickly started process with 29g and never looked back:)

I've had a freshwater tank, off and on, for as long as I can remember. I had a pair of Oscars that I had for 7 years die in a heater malfunction and went salt after that.

Freash water guy for many years. Gone 5+ years with out a tank.. Was time.. The $500.00 tank and stand special was a bargain. Many thousands of dollars later, the headaches that followed, were all worth it now when i lay down to go to sleep, and look at my 75 gallon rimless at the foot of my bed..

I grew up with a freshwater tank and got out of the hobby for awhile. When my wife and I moved to Greeley she wanted a Beta, and wasn't happy with the ones at the Walmart pet area, so she found the "pet store" which happened to be the LFS. My wife to this day still cusses that beta. I walked into the LFS and just stared at the huge selection of saltwater fish and corals that they had. I finally talked her into getting the 75 I have now and have been in the hobby ever since.

Growing up I had the occasional betta and carnival goldfish, but I never really was into caring for them. I thought fish were boring and pointless to keep. Then, 5 years ago I got a job at a pet store. They asked me to work in the pet care department. I embraced the opportunity and learned as much as I could about all the fish, reptiles, birds and small animals. One of my main areas to work in was the fish department. I slowly got very interested in caring for the fish. My customers loved me and I moved up to manager in just 6 months. Now, when I became a manager I figured it was time to get a fish tank. I got a 16 gallon bowfront and it went OK for a bit. I got bored with the tank and decided I needed a challenge. I converted the tank into saltwater. I still am very interested in keeping the tank. :)

Lol that is great, I am sure that your wife never thought that a search for a betta would have lead to this :D
