I couldn't find a good thread about this previously so for those of you who are using gyre flow patterns (any brand) what settings are you using? Other info like tank size, tank type, how long you've been using the gyres, is also appreciated.

I have a 4x2x2 120g and I have 1 icecap gyre on the top left, pushing water to the right across the surface. 60% gradual pulse, 0.6 seconds. And every 6 hours I have it 80% forward gyre or -80% (backwards) for 5 minutes to help clear out detritus and dead spots. I have my return pump flow coming from the right side aimed straight at the gyre so in the middle where they meet there's lots of random flow. And I have a 3rd gen koralia on the top right pointed towards the center of the front pane of glass pulsing every 5 seconds just to get a bit more flow.
I have almost entirely softies and lps.

I would love to hear about other's setups.

I like the OGC mode but I also have a SeaSwirl in the middle and a RW-15 on the other side on W1 stings.

I have tried the other modes but the LPS don't seem to like it.

I have the random pulse rise from 10-30% with 2 xf250 in a 3’ tank. My Duncan literally is blowing in the water and has never been larger than he is now. My SPS also have fantastic PE with this. One is aimed about two inches above the other and it creates tons of flow.

I have 2 maxspect 230s at opposite ends of my 125g reef. I have them set for alternating gyre from midnight to 8 a.m. alternating directions every half hour. I then have them go on a gradual pulsing cycle where the pumps pulse intermediate of each other for nice coral movement. From noon to 1 p.m. I have them set to random in hopes that it provides different patterns and maybe stronger flow to different areas to help get to those deadspots. They then return to gradual pulsing, with another random cycle from 6-7. I have 2 return pumps that split into 4 nozzles aiming towards the back of the tank behind rockwork that would otherwise be deadspots.

I have a mixed reef dominated by LPS and softies but everything does well. The flow seems to be great, with areas for everything to grow optimally. I have a ton of rock in this reef and virtually no deadspots.

I upgraded to the gyres from a single tunze turbelle 6080. The upgrade, needless to say, was worth the money.

. Welcome to the flow of my tank lol

I would like to know what percentage you are running your gyre in your 120? I have a 5’ 120gallon with on XF250 gyre vertically mounted. I run in at 40% alternating forward then reverse. Trying to find the balance between happy LPS and no dead spots. Thanks. Walter

I use a gyre icecap 3k in my 75gl and my setting is one of the preloaded alternating fwd to rev at 30% fwd and 40% rev at 8sec both directions.

I run a single Gyre in my RSR 250 - Glamorca-GP03. We seem to have different branding of these devices in Australia to what you have in the US so sorry if that model isn’t familiar to you.

I try to simulate a tidal cycle. Probably works more effectively in my head than it does in reality though!

It seems to keep my tank fairly happy however. I have the Gyre mounted on the LHS centrally about 2” below the waterline with the rear blade pushing out just below horizontal and the front blade pushing about 20 degrees deeper.

This is what I have set. The midnight Gyre mode is an attempt to mobilise detritus on the LHS where flow is minimal.

1. 00:00 Gyre 50%
2. 02:00 Gradual Pulse 30%
3. 07:30 Continuous 30%
4. 08:30 Pulse 50%
5. 13:30 Continuous 30%
6. 14:30 Gradual Pulse 50%
7. 19:30 Continuous 30%
8. 20:30 Pulse 40%

Regards, Brad.

During alternating gyre through the night they are 50% forward and 20% reverse to give the reef a bit of a break. They then pulse 10 seconds in each direction at 80% forward and 50% reverse. At noon there is a one hour random setting during feeding time that allows for maximum forward and reverse, which is then followed by the same 10 second pulse setting, and another random setting at 6 (feeding times). The last setting is from 7 to midnight and is a gradual pulse that ramps up to 70 forward and 30 reverse to allow the reef to settle down.

My tank is absolutely packed with corals and rock, so along with my 2 return pumps, this provides ample random flow that my torches and other long polyps corals love. My sps corals are predominantly towards the top where the flow is much stronger as my gyres are both horizontal near the surface on either side.

I have a 40B with an MP10QD set at 100% reef crest, icecap gyre 1k set at random 100% and a jebao sw2 pulse at like 50%
Then the gyre and MP10 go to night mode at 10pm till 8am

I just put icecap 3k in . I have a 200gal, 6ft.
Still playing and wanting the best for my corals. This is what I just set up. Most like will change.
1. 900 gradual pulse 30%
2. 1100 steady flow 10%
3. 1400 no flow
4. 1800 gyre forward 20%, reverse 50%
5. 2230 no flow till the following morning 9am

I know this is not the best but 0lsying with it and finding what my tank likes. I should probably research more about realistic ocean patterns .
Any suggestions are welcomed

I have a single maxspect XF330 on my 3'x2' 75g. I've only been running on continuous 30%. Anyone here with recommendations on a better preferred setting? I haven't exactly looked into what this thing can all do yet. It seems like it might be more limited without the addon controller. I don't have the lunar tidal cycle setting.
