I left for an hour and came home to this...

Thoughts?

How long have you had this BTA? What are the current parameter readings? Most NEMS do not handle swings in parameters very well....my guess is something is out of wack

Anemones need: high levels of dissolved O2, a salinity at 1.024 to 1.026, a stable pH between 8.1 and 8.3, temp between 76 and 78 F, calcium between 400 and 450, dKH at 8.0 to 12.0, magnesium between 1,250 and 1,350 ppm, nitrateat 2 ppm or less (closer to 0 ppm is best), stable phosphate at 0.002 ppm or less (0 is best), and finally 0 ppm of ammonia and nitrite. Just as with most all aquatic life, stable parameters and parameters at or near the desired levels is the key to a healthy and happy tank with healthy and happy anemones.

One important thing to keep in mind is that it is best to maintain proper and balanced levels of Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium in order to have a proper and stable pH. This will help to maintain levels close to that of natural sea water. Your nitrates should be less than 2ppm (closer to 0 is best), and phosphates less than 0.002 ppm.

+1 hopefully it's taking a poo is did this happen when light turned off? Or are they still on?

keep in mind Anemones will deflate and then re-inflate as a way of changing the water inside of them flushing out wastes. If this is continually happening (say daily or more), or if it remains shrunk for longer periods of time, your anemone might be having problems or is stressed.

I picked this men up at the fray swap this past weekend. Everyday was doing fine except this past hour. I'm in the middle of testing water now but all my parameters are in the same vicinity as they've been for the past few months.

It did this when the lights were on. The lights are off for now (normal time for them to be off) so I'll see how it is tomorrow. It's deep inside the rock. Just surprised me.

Salinity 1.026
Temp 79.4 (normal 78.9 to 80.1 with house temp)
PH 8.0
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 5
Phosphates 0.0
Alk 7.84dkh
Ca 500
Mg 1600

Not sure why my mag is so high. I don't dose anything. Just weekly 5g water changes for my biocube 29 with about 20g total water volume. Using reef crystals salt.

How about the lighting it was under before did it need acalamateimg to new lights?

Normal as far as i am concerned. I see nothing abnormal. At night they shrink and sometimes hide in holes, or under ledges. During the day they spread out all the way. Mine does this all the time. Under blue light they often keep a bit bubbled. But full on blackout and they shrink the most.

Now if it was shrunk up like that during the day for all day then there might be a problem.

Anyway. I am going to say there is absolutely nothing abnormal about an RBTA changing shape throughout the day.

Agreed. It might be nothing. Mine looks like that at least 2x s week in the am. Then usually looks great after lights come on.

Anything picking at it could have caused it. If it just ate something. If it just took a poo. As long as it does not stay shriveled up for long periods then you should be ok.
