What happened to my Chalice?

My chalice kept getting knocked by my snails, so I moved him and put him under some shade. Then two days later he looks like this: Why?

Looks dead. By it constantly moving it probably got irritated to death

Hmmmm. Have you checked your dKH alkalinity?

Any spike over 13dKH is certain death to chalices with patches of dead tissue.

GOOD NEWS is I've saved chalices by removing from the tank and cutting /razor blading a healthy tissue section and remounting the healthy portion to a new rock. BAD NEWS is to regrow a chalice from a small healthy frag takes 12-24mos to get back to a decent size. The healthy small frag need to be in a super shady spot and left untouched for 12mos.

Hi, my dKH read 9.8, I'm not sure what happened to this coral besides he kept getting kicked by the snails for some reason. All my other corals (and chalice) are growing like crazy.

i have put the chalice where there is no flow and no light at all (not even algae grows here)
