What happened to my coral??

Hi all still new to this game and I checked my tank this morning and my birdsnest appears to have had an arm stippes off to the bone?? Any ideas? Hermit fish flow too high???

It looks to me like you have tissue necrosis. I would break the dead piece of but cut it off while removing a small piece of the living tissue to ensure that you remove the infected area. It should be fine, just keep a watchful eye. You may have to move it to a different part of your tank. Adjust lighting and water flow should help.

Not sure if this guy got same problem as yours but he got a few tanks all plumbed into one system and in one tank or maybe 2,flesh peeling off and he seems to think in last few posts may have found reason with a few wavemakers/pumps showing rust or blown out and getting a low copper reading,would off thought would affect all livestock in different tanks if all plumbed I together unless such a low level its localised the closer it is to the wavemakers with blown out seems etc.

Either way won't harm to check your wavemakers/pumps and to check coral at night when lights out to see if any pests actively eating it,then would be check flow good enough but not direct flow straight onto it.

Edit: just read last post in thread and the shared link about hanna copper checker not reliable at low levels so maybe he not found the cause yet .
I don't know as dont own any hanna checkers as nearly double the price here in sunny England compared to American prices so just stick with salifert for my tests as good enough for me at moment

Just a VERY uneducated guess, but it looks like the Birds nest has been there for a little while. Encrusting well. Has probably grown some. The rest of the coral looks fairly healthy. I'd follow @Coralreefer1's advice and remove the affected area. Looks like you should be able to take some healthy tissue with it. I wouldn't move it but watch for anything that may be bothering it (predators, pests, etc...). Just a thought.
