What Happened to my Decorator Crab???

I've had a decorator crab for maybe a couple months now. I haven't seen him in about a week. Is it possible my brittle star ate him? The head of the star wasn't much bigger than the crab. Is it possible he crawled out the back of my tank? Or do they bury themselves when they molt? Has anyone ever seen them disappear for that long?
