What happened to my lineatuses head?

Early in the day my lineatus wrasse had no scratch on his head but just recently around feeding I noticed a scratch on his head!! Did he get scared and scuff it on a rock? I'm leaning towards that but am unsure. Hes eating like a champ but swimming around a little frantically though.

May have. Hitting heads is a common wrasse occurrence at times. My Solon jumps and hits his head on my canopy at least twice a year.

What size tank?
What other fish do you keep?

Eating well is a good sign.

Just checking for aggressive fish.

Should be okay as long as its eating.

Hes eating everything I throw in

I'll keep monitoring and feeding to help him heal

quick tangent but will rhomboids and lineatus be suitable tank mates?

I'm not a wrasse expert, but I want to say they may not get along well.

On a different site he said it is fine

but I'll be getting a Male and female if it changes anything? Of the rhomboids...

Lineatus and rhomboid are closely related, so aggression can be worse between them than for more distantly related species. Rhomboids are smaller and less aggressive than lineatus, so ideally should be established before the lineatus is added. In a tank that size they should be fine, but definitely use a social acclimation box to introduce, and preferably have some other fairy wrasses to diffuse aggression.

Are you meaning to get two rhomboid? I was a little confused about the male/female comment lol

If the tank is big enough, they're usually okay. I'd say yours is, but just barely. +1 to an acclimation box for sure.

Yep, if you get a female... likely to turn male eventually anyway. But huge variances on time-frame, I’ve had some turn male before they were even out of QT... and others stay female for quite some time. My current flame was bought female almost two years ago and still in sub-male phase.
