20" of tank space for Duncan's!!!??? Geez how the heck long are their sweeper? I' paying extra close attention tonight.

I'm pretty puzzled that it moved or was moved closer to the rocks. There is a good current going across the bottom but none that would have likely been so strong as to move it.... rogue current in the tank!?

Perhaps a mystery predator living in the rocks

This was my first thought as well. Maybe some kind of aggressive bristleworm? Especially if you're fairly sure that it was dragged across the sand and not swept over by currents.

I had a small green and white Goniastrea that one day I noticed had moved over slightly, without apparent reason. When I looked closer, the entire left edge of the coral was turning to jelly and covered with sand, as if it had been dragged. I have no doubt that the adjacent Acanthastrea echinata, which I had thought was far enough away, had reached out in the middle of the night and enthusiastically tried to kill that other coral.

What kind of inverts do you have besides hermits? Something definitely attacked or ate it.

Doubtful it was the hermits. But I have had red mithrax crabs and keyhole limpets eat acans. So I would not be surprised if they chowed down on scolys as well. Likewise, as rkpetersen mentioned, if a duncan or other coral put out sweepers to attack it, when they retracted it may have drug the scoly out of its normal position.

I'm not positive it was not the current, it's possible but the Scoly right next to it didnt move and the injured scoly' s base was in the sand so not easy for it to just drift away. It was moved for sure though.

I'm moving both Scoly s a bit further from the duncan just in case and will monitor closely tonight.

I added 2 mithrax crabs to the tank. I have seen some crabs i got from live rock as hitchikers, never seen them mess with anything, just picking algae off rocks. It's possible it could have been crabs. Besides that I've only added in snails and hermits...oh I do have a longspine urchin that came as a hitchiker, but it' all the way over on the other side of the tank and has been since I discovered him weeks ago.

Just my first look, I am looking at a extremely clean sub straight. What are you testing the nitrates with? 0 nitrates your corals are hungry, very hungry

Testing with red sea and salifert for nitrates. I know the tank is not void of nitrates because I still have some problems areas with gha and some ulva algae, that area of the substrate is just pretty clean. Others corals seem to be doing great and nothing is looking withered. Heck my fuge is a jungle/swamp of gha mixed with cheato! Here are some areas which let me know there are nitrates still being absorbed.

I think he' going to be ok!

Showed feeding tentacles past few nights and have been giving him oyster feast and phyto feast live.

Healing properties are pretty amazing and I now expect a full recovery if things keep up like this!

Woke up this morning to find him like this... was he attacked or just all of a sudden not doing well?

Found him moved about an 1 1/2" towards the rocks than where he usually sits with the damaged area closer to the rocks. Have since moved him back. Current or predator? Did hermits do this?

Had him for about a week and he has seemed healthy the whole time and ate when I fed him. He was doing great!

All other Trachys and Scolys look fine and params are solid except for lower ph.

Keep feeding it and nursing it back to health. Looks like it will make a recovery.
