The friendly not for profit fellow reefers exchanges or sales of frags for $ 10.00, is what made this hobby more pleasant and enjoyable. Feeling like a kid again exchanging frags instead of baseball cards. The way its going selling a pally for $100 or a ¼ “ frags for 1500 somehow sounds ridiculous to me. What’s your opinion ?

i still find some zoas for 10bucks a frag but its not as common as it used to be. the hobby has turned into a huge business know and reflects it in the price of frags unfortunately

I hate the prices on a lot of this stuff on line. Lucky for me my lfs is great, along with the people who shop there. So there is plenty of trading, $10 frags and freebee's.

Depends on where you're looking and who you're dealing with. There are plenty of retailers and fellow hobbyists who still sell frags for $10 or trade...

I can end this now by saying yes, everyone agrees and there are tons of threads about this which normally end up getting closed...

I sell almost all my frags at $10 to local members. Every now and then a higher end frag I sell for $20 or so. I always post on my threads I'd rather trade but there aren't a ton of people that have items to trade around here. I'm speaking of sps, I don't keep chalices and super high end zoas.

I'm over the corals that cost more than my mortgage payment. I actually sell my frags pretty reasonably now if I don't give them away. I understand that people are in business to make a profit and I am a huge fan of capitalism so I don't fault anyone for selling at the price people will pay. I just won't buy it anymore. I can trade or find a nice coral local for what I am willing to pay. Which is waaaayyy under $100 anymore :)

Locally there are even $10 frags at LFS. I see a lot of $10 at frag swaps and from club members. I have bought frags for as little as $5 but they aren't much. One of our members has really nice stuff for $10 or $15, buy 3 get one free. Obviously we are not talking about high end stuff I don't buy.

i have some kenya tree frags for 5 bucks lol, no seriorsly there are a lot of friend of mine that have 10-15 doller frags of plates chalices birds nest acropora, softies etc a lot of times we just swap , i stay away from high end fish and high end corals, i learned a long time ago what a person told me at a freash water store, cheap fish live long the exspensive stuff.. well theres a reason its exspensive 95 percent of my profit died on the way here, good luck

My lfs sells the frags for $5 or 5 for 20, have to watch for the aiptasia but they are a great price

I sell frags for alot less than going rate and always have a number of frags I will sell for 10 bucks, but I would much rather trade. Ritter if you ever head up to Texarkana let me know, there are very few reefers in this town(and no LFS that carries anything).

I understand the want for the $10 frags, but not all corals are valued the same in this hobby. For the $10 section, I can think of a few instances where I've seen them in a LFS. Sometimes with hidden gems too, like a yuma or a baby sunset monti, but usually it's corals that you would expect for $10. Locally members sell corals fairly as well, selling some lower end polyps or medium range polyps for $10pp or a few.

But mentioning $100 polyps and $1500 chalice frags isn't the same thing and I doubt you'll be seeing those in the $10 sections, it's just not a fair comparison. But yeah, $10 sections still exist, only expect things worth around $10 or some nice corals that are honestly worth $10, like a polyp of red hornet or a nice rhodactis, etc. But I sure wouldn't mind if someone gave me atoms or dynamite chalices for $10 though! :)

I love my lfs, they give me $5 frags all the time,

then i grow them out and trade them back for food, salt, chems, or pumps.

my LFS's, have $5, $10, and $15 sections (decent ones) one in particular when he gets in a big shipment, the $5-$15 sections are freaking awesome!

I think 20 bucks to 30 bucks for a nice size sps frag from/for a local is fair given its a decent prospect and in good health...

I have it the same as Hbulick. It is 10 dollars for mushrooms, which are not bad at ALL!!! like awesome colours and everything. They do bulk prices like 3 for 20, and give you amazing trade in deals if your a regular customer. They have a nice small setup but their workers are amazing! It is Menagerie petshop in Toronto Ontario if anyone from toronto is wondering

For me it kinda depends on the person... If I am selling stuff to a person I know pretty much anything in my tank is around $10 for a frag. For the larger mini-colonies I get into the $35 range, but those are 4 - 5" multiple branch super sized frags ;). Basically what I sell for $10 goes for $30 at the LFS. Same as my $35 corals are about $90 at the LFS... I am not out to make money either. I prefer trades and love to get new stuff so a coral for a coral is always a good deal for me.

Just like anything else...you pay for a name. I have seen cheap frags that are much more attractive than the high end stuff. I don't have a local lfs that carries cheap frags.

+1
There's still plenty of $10 frags avail, and there always will be. For some reason this issue makes some who don't spend the $ on more expensive coral a little sensitive. The solution couldn't be simpler however: Don't spend the $ on expensive coral if that's not what you're into.
