What happens if you never do a water change?

In my previous salt life I had about 1200g total I did 200g wc/month 50/week most of the time. I did have 2 300g stock tanks with large not reef safe fish creating a lot of bioload though. Very big skimmer and 75g display fuge for help with export. The reef tanks always looked better after a wc. Nitrates were in the 20ppm range usually and po4 on the higher end also no coral issues from it though.

I'd guess disease as well but that wouldn't affect corals. Trace elements or other parameters out of wack? No idea on tank specs or export methods could have extremely off levels of most parameters.
