What has your experience taught you?

I would say the belief that reefing has to be complicated is untrue. You don’t have to go super chemistry geek or tech junkie to be successful. You do have to be patient, consistent and observant.

You don’t have to spend hundreds on gear to be successful nor do you have to run water tests every other day. Just do your homework about what species or corals will be best for your preferred level of commitment. I tiny nano with only a power head a 25watt heater and a tiny aquaclear filter that I put a sponge for mechanical filtration and a bag of carbon in. I do weekly 2.5 gallon water changes. With sand and live rock my entire system only holds 5.5 gallons. So my water changes with high quality salt mix serve to replenish calcium and other vital elements. Again, you don’t have to dose 2 part, run a skimmer or have a refugium to be successful. Just know your limits and enjoy the beauty. Reef Keeping is fun and your tank will be the center of conversation for anyone who comes to your home. So enjoy it, don’t make it a chore, hobbies are for relaxing not stressing!

When I started reefing in April I read one great piece of advice and that was "nothing good happens fast in a reef tank" which is extremely true only bad things happen fast.

Oh and water changes Ive done a water change every Sunday since April, ive yet to miss a single one.
