Well, it's been an interesting couple of weeks for us at UC...

A lot of you noticed that we weren't adding a whole lot of corals of late to our inventory. Well, we have a good reason! My partner, and UC's principal photographer, Joseph Capratta, was participating in the Fluval Sea/Reef Builders Flores Sea Expedition, exploring a variety of reefs in Indonesia with an All Star cast of coral experts! We've been busy propagating some awesome stuff in house, working on our already great customer service, and also getting our systems ready for a big influx of new corals!

Scouring the seafloor for corals!

During their numerous dives, they saw a whole bunch of cool stuff, including what might just be the first time reef hobbyists (Jake Adams and Joe) have seen Acanthophyllia in the wild! In addition, they may have actually stumbled upon one or more species of Acropora previously unknown to science. Specimens were turned over to scientists for further study. Jose gained valuable insight into the requirements for many of the corals that we've come to love in the hobby, including the deep water ones! There will be tons of pics and information seeping out about this expedition for many months to come.

Of course, no trip to Bali would be complete without us hand picking some maricultured and collected specimens from our number one source in Indo, and Joe went to town, picking us 55 boxes of cherry-picked corals, including some amazing Acros and LPS that we have not had before, like A. latistella, A. polystoma, A. valenciennesi, and more! You'll be seeing "unplugged" colonies, and UC-propagated frags of many of these corals as the weeks progress. And, our good friend and coral connoisseur, Jake Adams, picked us a bunch of selected corals from another Indo supplier! If you know anything about Jake's taste in corals, you're going to see stuff you've probably never seen before! We're also going to be offering a couple of interesting "nano"gobies, the cute little Trimma rubromaculatum (Red-Spotted Dwarf Goby), and Eviota nigriventris (Red Neon Goby), hand collected and conscientiously handled all the way. They're perfect for nano reefs!

Needless to say, we're going to be offering a lot of cool corals over the coming weeks as summer progresses!

Oh, yeah, some cool Aussie stuff next week, too.

In the mean time, some mouth-watering pics from Jake, to give you an idea of just what the crew saw down there:

Love the reef...

Stay tuned....

We don't just love corals. We LIVE corals!

I was reading about this trip on another blog. Nice to see you'll be receiving some very nice, unusual specimens.

The Nano Refers lament, "If I only had more room!" :)

Very cool and super excited to read/see more!

You're saying the unknown species were handed over in the pursuit of science instead of being chopped into tiny bits and sold at an insane price? What's this industry coming to? Haha

Crazy, right? Imagine that!

I don't know how your business is able to stay afloat....

Can't wait to see the goodies you guys picked out.

You had me at nano goby...

They're so dang cute you can[t believe it! What's really cool is that Joe was telling me that they were finding this little guys in almost every Acro colony...Interesting!

We also received some really nice tank-raised Banggai Cardinals from Bali- How cool is that?

Great to hear! That plate is very nice but what caught my attention was how pruned his hand is. Must have been having a blast!

OUTSTANDING NEWS Scott, cannot wait to see and read further on about this trip.

Cheers, Todd

I miss you. LOL!

E. nigriventrisis a very cool little fish. I have two. They are curious little guys that weave in and out of the rockwork and perch for the most part. Extremely hardy as well and they eat pretty much anything. Would recommend! Awesome post Scott.

Here's my big male! (only 1 1/4" long :D)
