Hey guys, I know all lights and and tanks are differient, but I'm just trying to get a general idea here. What height from the water surface do you keep your lights?? Getting ready to fire up my first tank soon. I have some what of a hybrid, 2 T5 tubes, 2 kessill 360s. Just wondering about where I should start, the tank is not up and running yet, but I have them hung at 6 inches right now from water surface. Any recommendations???

T-5/LED Hybrid about 16" off the water.

T5/LED hybrid about 10" from water surface.

I run an 8 bulb t5 fixture about 6" off the surface of the water. My tank is 31" deep, so that is why I keep mine so close.

You want them high enough to get good spread. Also remember you will end up with salt creep if they are to close, possibly leading to corrosion or fire.

10-15 inches is about normal height, but as you said each tank is different
