Not talking about plugging things into a controller. Having 12 things to plug in and a socket with 2 outlets. i had everything plugged into a Surge protector/battery backup, but had a mishap yesterday with new media reactor and it got wet. So I ran out to get a quick replacement but there were no 12 outlet available. So I had to get a 10 outlet surge proector/battery back up and a multi slot unit for the wall outlet. The wall outlet unit says not to use it with aquarium equipment. My tank is a 30 gallon so not huge.
What do you use?

Find two separate circuits. Then, get a nice power strip like a DJ Power Strip or a nice 8-10 outlet surge protector. Mount the surge protectors up off of the ground and have a drip loop.

Then, stagger your equipment between the two circuits - flow pumps on one, return pump on the other. Heaters on one (or if multiple heaters, then use some on each circuit), skimmer on another. ...etc. Make sure that if you lose one circuit then everything will still be OK.

I like these and they have a long power cord.

My tank is in the dining room so I don’t really know if I can get on 2 different circuits but that is a great idea.

I happen to have a controller, but if you look at the mess of cords, you’ll see three power strips that everything is ultimately plugged into. The controller is a very recent addition and I don’t have everything plugged into it. The three extension cords come off of a single GFI outlet installed in the bedroom.

I got lucky and have a bedroom closet on the other side of the wall from my display and I’m able to put everything on a shelf.

If you can somehow manage to install you power cords above your sump, you’ll probably reduce the risk of spill related issues significantly.
