Good evening everyone - this will be my first post
My Name is Nik from Wales UK - that's the left butt cheek of the UK.
I had wanted since a boy looking in to rook pools and to be able to look in to rook pools more often.
Now i can do that, where i live, Cardiff the water is always muddy, 2nd highest tidal changes in the world.
I can do that by having a marine tank.
Wow, what a frustrating but intensive journey.
I have a 700ltr tank with 200ltr sump, i bought way to much kit, kids cant go to collage this year lol.
I won't go into every detail of how much kit i bought [ honey you dont need a new car just yet ]but after reading this forum for months i think i have a system i can work and understand, also with help from the local marine suppliers.
So this is for people like me, just my experiences.

Slow down tiger - you will want to sell your first child [ sorry sav - i did get £200] to get stock in your tank - mostly i found that until about 7 - 10 months in, things were a bit hit or miss, somethings survived but i was so ticked off at killing something, now it seems the critters put in live - hallelujah

Water, Water every where but not a drop to drink - wow - so many thoughts about water i thought i was going to drown [ metaphorically ] - test this - test that - this is up - this is down - i set up the RO/DI with AOT [ I had a lot of acronyms to learn ] for evaporation - did water changes - wondered why? after i spend so much effort adding calcium reactor, carbon, A,B,C,D, bio pellets, co2 scrubbier to skimmer, trace elements, cheto, pond matrix etc etc and then i throw it down the drain.
Im going to try keeping the water i have in good condition.

Light - walk in to the light
I could have had a fusion generator pulsing above my tank but still not get it right - i'm an electrician, so i had lights made for me as they were free - 2000k, 4000k, 9000k full spectrum.
If your trying to display a rolls royce, light it with a rolls royce [ mind you rolls royce just got fined for a massive bribery scandle ] so i got 4 Kessil; 360w, oh the difference blinds you [ pun intended ]
colours, clarity, ripple - oh so good.

Live stock
I love the fish and the corals but the other live stock is also so fascinating, crabs in my house, anemones, sea hair [ ugly ] big snails, tiny creature that i can barley see, fans, star fish, now i have my rook pool.

Compatibility
Why is my hell fire black anemone loosing his tentacles just after he grow's them back?
I don't know?
Hey did my rabbit fish just take a peck at hell fire? hey he did it again, not only that he shook like he was eating a hot chilly joint, yes eating.

So what did you think was the most important thing you learned?

So, what did you learn?
Best Regards,
Nik

Welcome to R2R :) No such thing as a "silly" question here. Most important thing: water - we are first and foremost, managers of water quality, and everything else we do is secondary. And everything else, everything, we do affects our water quality.

Actually there are "silly" questions, where common sense prevails. And no, everything we do doesn't affect water quality... calm down over there, lol
