What do I actually need to have in order to succeed in saltwater fishkeeping in otherwords could I a tank with freshwater level equipment in other words tank heater light hang on the back filter and etc. What is the hardest fish and coral that I can keep with this type of system?

The tank and the HOB filter could probably be used, the heater...maybe, I don't see why it would be a problem, the light...you would need stronger lighting. You need live rock to act as your biological filtration. The size of the tank determines what critters you can keep. As far as the "hardest" coral you can keep, baby steps...you need lights and wave makers and the ability to keep your system stable before you get into that aspect of reef keeping.

Could I do for example a 10 gallon tank with a filter heater sand live rock and water changes of 2 gallons once a month with a single damsel in it could I do multiple tanks side by side with a different damsel species in each tank
