What in tarnation is this thing. Found it while changing my filter pads. I have a NUVO 40G and it was just chilling around the return pump... I thought it was a large piece of algae but apparently not lol....

You sure? I have no idea how it get to my filteration side... I have a cover on my tank at all times
Definitely stomatella. They are sneaky little hitchhikers

Alright hes in the DT, seems happy already eating stuff off the glass lol. Guess I got lucky

If you have another hiding in there or accidentally add another at some point they'll likely begin to reproduce. I have maybe a hundred or so of varying size. The population seems to rise and fall, sometimes drastically. I think they're cool, but you do need to consider that you may get these critters with a hard shell crawling around probably everywhere in your system. Never had issues with my pumps yet though. I've seen both my scolys and wilsoni corals eating them or spitting up a empty shell so probably tasty too.

Just wanted to make sure it was reef safe before I put him in the DT
