The little guy was able to dance how the big girl wanted, showed he is fit to be at her side and demonstrated he could clean a rock or other object clean enough to lay eggs on.

I currently have a 28 year old female clarkii (was a male until his wife died at the age of 32). It has accepted a very small clarkii as the new male and they are already spawning. (Eggs do not appear to be fertilized, but he is still caring for them).

Definitely got me confused - I guess they paired well but I wouldn’t be surprised if they slapped the first juvie they saw with the female.
