What intensity do you keep your SBreeflights at?

What size tank and what type of corals do you keep? How many do you have over your tank. Which types? What intesnsity of each channel do you keep yours at for growth and color? Do you dim them to the lowest intensity when you get new corals than place the new corals than turn the intensity up or what?

Well I've got the Mars Aquas that I modded to mimic the SB lights, so they are not exactly the same, but very close.

Mine are 12" above water line. Mine are set at around 20% white channel and 40% blue channel. This was set based on using a lux meter and using a conversion to par. 350 par at waterline.

No adjustment to the lights when a new coral/SPS is introduced. Set on sand bed, move up small amounts over the course of a few weeks until it where I want it.

Pick a color ratio you like , then set the intensity with a meter


If you're changing from one light to another , drop intensity at least 30% or more to acclimate.

I actually run a really warm light, right now it's 30% w and 12%blue. I think. Lol. But my lights are about 8in from the top of the tank.

I asked due to the fact i actually bought a seneye during the BRS sale and was able to test it out today. I took par readings at 25%,50,75 and 100 and max at the waterline I got was around 700 with both channels at full intensity. Does this sound right? I tested in ultiple spots around 12 spots. And Saty do you mean decrease intensity if the coral you got it from uses MH or T-5's instead of LED's or do you mean decrease intensity if the coral is not coming from a black box light?

Cool, you have a meter.
Ignore the lux function.

Set the color ratio so it looks nice to your eye, and make a note of ratio.

Find the spot near the top of the tank with the highest average par.
Set the intensity (par) there.

If your going from one light to another , check the same way with the old light , note the par , then with the new light , match and then reduce the intensity by 30 to 50%.
Watch the corals , turn up the intensity maybe one a week about 50 to 100 par.

That'll acclimate the tank and corals.

For coral acclimation , put it on the bottom and move it up.

In short with any tank, you want to figure out (estimate ) the par range you want to work with. High med low etc.
so for most med/high tanks try 400 par at the top in the hot spot. Then see what you get on average on the bottom.

If you are dead set on a maxima on the bottom , you'll want to get about 150 200 in the bottom. The. Go back up and see how much you have in the hot spots and then the average.

If you're not on a ramping system, a little lower is better.

I have an 80 shallow, 48x24x16. I have one of the 32” toner versions 13” over my tank. I run at 100% blue and 30% white. UV on at 10am, blue on at 11am, white on at 12pm. White off at 8pm, blue off at 9pm, UV off at 10pm.
It’s a mixed reef from mush, zoa, Chalice, Duncan, gsp, acro, millies, etc. Good results from lighting, bad results from other tank shenanigans for a while. Here’s a few pic when everything was going well. Slowly coming back now.

I have been running These lights so no need to acclimate the tank just new corals that I get in. So it seems to just let the intensity stay where it is and acclimate corals based on placement . I think I am going for a high light tank! so I will probably try and aim for about 500par at the top of water surface.

I hope to start a thread soon with Black box lighted tanks here in a few hours for everyone who would liek to show their tanks off(will be one of the only times I share my tank haha) Would love for you to post these photos. Corals look great as well as the color mixture. IDK if I wanna go with more white or blue? Does the white grow the corals faster since it is closer to 10K?

Ok makes sense. I am slowly ramping my lights % up from what I am now at about 50% intensity on both channels.

I am really into lps and sps more.

There's no correlation to sps lps in regards to lighting needs.

I'm running my 16" wifi 10" above the tank (it's a shallow nano, 12x24x 7" deep). I currently have it ramping to 50% blue and 10% white which is giving me over 400 par and 78% pur at 6" below the surface in the center (hot spot) for the light. It tapers to 250 at the edges of the light and 100 at the edge of the tank.

I just got my seneye yesterday so I'm going to play around with the settings some to get a nice ramp up and down.

Thank you! It’s a shame what it has gone to now though after AEFW, some rogue asterina stars, and inadvertently using a “mold/mildew” Free polyfill. But, back on the upswing. Idk if the white increases growth (Haven’t done much research on it). Just found a setting that worked for me and quit monkeying around with it. Lol. I did start at around 50% blue and 10% white and added 5% or so a week tweaking the spectrum to please my eye on the way.

Lol!! Just showing these lights are fully capable of keeping some beautiful animals. As for my ability to keep them healthy and pest free, that’s up for debate after the last few debacles.

I got 2 basic 16inch on a 65g 3ft tank. They do ramp up and max out at 100%B and 80%W. About 12inch off surface. And run at max for about 7hrs. Sps dominant tank

I love the look of a bright tank! Love that pic nice color. IDK if I cwant to keep it more blue or more white or a 1:1? lol so many options with such a simple piece of equipment.
