So I got a rodi system from bulk Ree fSupply that reads both the incoming and outgoing TDS.

Now, the outgoing is zero, but the incoming city water, after running a bit, is one. ONE!!!!!

I'm starting a new tank, and just thinking screw it, one is good enough! Isn't it?

I have a 14 gallon Nano that I started with full tap and then switched to rodi for changes. That would be the plan for this tank as well, cause ONE!

thoughts? IS the perfect the enemy of the really good?

p.s. ONE! :)

Yeah return the rodi. Not needed. What about chlorine in the water though?

City water of 1 TDS sounds farfetched are you reading that before it goes to rodi unit at all? ,if that is really the case then i probably would skip rodi, but would still run through carbon. Not everything bad for your tank is a "tds"

I'm sure there is chlorine in the water, but tap conditioner should resolve that

I'm using the meters on the filter itself.

I think most of the tds meters that are pre installed read in as before di resin and out after, sounds like it is working as it should
So you think its done SOME filtering before reading...

Then the "in" is likely after ro and before DI. That makes sense. The DI is just there to gobble up what gets through RO
I'll have to check the paperwork.

Some cities distribute RO water anyway. Does anyone know typical TDS for city water that is RO?

No way to say, but should be able to find details online for most water districts. You can bet it is not zero or close though.

I wouldn't use 1 tds water, but that's just me

Measure it straight from the faucet .
Just for giggles , I just tested mine .

ran the cold for about 30 seconds and filled a glass .
198 ppm tds

along with a over powering smell of chlorine .
I couldn’t imagine what else is in there and for that reason alone , rodi in my opinion is essential .
