What is a good height for a DIY stand

32" is a good height IMO. I went 36 but it was only cause I had to, its grown on me though.

I've gone as high as 40 inches, I liked it because you did'nt bend over much to look in the tank. However you do need a small ladder to service the tank.

smallest i would go is 32 inchs and the highest i would go is 36 inchs just take a tape measure and mark the height on the wall were you want the tank and look at the different heights then go from there

Yeah my 75g is 48" and it is a pain to service. The 150g tank is 28" tall my stand so far is 39" tall so I'm trying to figure out if I need to shorten it.

My 125 gal is on a diy stand that is 40'' high with the tank 23'' high. This makes nice viewing height and if we move the sofa you can still see the tank. My wife really likes it so that helps:bigsmile:

Yeah I want it to be able to be viewed while sitting down but high enough to keep all my equipment in. It will have a 40g breeder for a sump so I need clearance for a 26" tall skimmer or bigger so I will leave it. I will just need to buy a short latter to service it because the dinning room chairs can't hold my weight. Lol

I love my 2ft tank sitting on my 40in stand. Wonderful viewing since it's in the dining room. I need a step ladder to do anything inside, but it gives my plenty of space underneath for cords and electric to be kept away from water with out being cramped and it makes getting my skimmer out a breeze. I will probably never go shorter again! And all the company we have that comes over doesn't have to bend to look into it, it's just right there in front of your face. Love it!

My 180g (2' tall) is on a 42" high stand.... if I could I would have went taller (but then space above the tank becomes a real factor as well, and being inwall limits the room as it is), as I still have to bend down sometimes to look at things, but I'm also 6'5". However, our dinning table is right in front of the tank so it makes for easy viewing while enjoying dinner with the family.

Next tank will probably be a room divider/ island type tank and will probably be around 36" for the stand, but if I have the room for the tank I want (in a future house), the tank itself will be 30" tall (which will still give me a total height of 66" tall for top of tank) ;)

FWIW, Lowe's used to carry (and probably still do) a 3' long aluminum step stool/ platform which is what I use behind my tank to get better access when I need to get in the tank.

I have my 120 4x2x2 on a DIY 41" stand. I am 6'2" tall and love the height. I do have to have a step stool to really get into the tank.

I almost went with 36" but I saw one that height but I was just a little short for me.

The taller your stand the more room you will have under it as well. It's really easy to get into my stand and work. :)

Thank you everyone. I'm going to leave it at 39". I really appreciate all the input to help me deside.

My tank is in the living room/kitchen area and it is opposite of the kitchen counters. The counters are 36" so that what we made the tank. Didn't want it to look funny and wanted to have everything flow. For us this is the best height

Yeah that makes since. I wanted mine high enough for equipment but low enough to see while sitting back in my living room.

I like to go between 36 and 42". It is rather high and can be a pain getting in the tank but I love having everything eye level

I bought a used 180 gal tank that had a 42" tall stand and st first didn't like how tall the stand is but now I love it. It makes it easier to view. You don't have to bend over
