I am planning on getting a 220g 72x24x30.I have decided I either want to go with trigger systems sapphire 39 inch 40 gallon or tideline 48 60 gallon by trigger systems both systems will be able to hold my skimmer and a potential carbon reactor(TBD)

which one should I get and what are the benefits of a bigger sump?

The sapphire 39 is roughly 40 gallons while the 48 is about 60 gallons

If I were you I wouldn't buy a fancy sump. Just get the biggest aquarium you can fit under the tank and silicone in glass baffles. It will cost you less than 1/3 of the price, just with a bit more effort :)

Ide 2nd that! find the biggest standard tank you can fit in the space and design your sump as you want it. in my mind there is no better way, why he restricted by baffles you dont want nor need. glass from a glaziers a few quid cut to your size and a tube of HA6 a few hours of your time and all your own needs : )

If the OP is DIY inclined, yes. Building a sump to your needs is cheaper and can be tailored to you needs. Not everyone can do this.

My sump build was my first ever DIY (2nd if you consider resealing the display a DIY).
I'm 15 and had no problems with it and did it completely alone. The only thing I had to buy was plexiglass and the tank.
So yes, if you are rich and can afford to spend $400 on a sump and get it half the size of one you could DIY then you can do that. But personally as a kid I would rather learn how to do things online and make it myself. I don't regret making it at all :)
