One thing people are always stressing over is maintaining stable parameters in their tank - so specifically with temperature, what is a dangerous shift in degrees and in what time frame?

For instance, over the last few months my average temp has been 75.9° with a variance of .63° - is that significant or would I have to measure the variance in a 24/12/6/3 hr period?

Max temp: 77.6°
Min temp: 74.5°
Median temp: 75.99°
Variance: .63
Standard deviation: .82

74 seems kind of chilly to me. As for temp swings mine never falls below 77.3 and it's highest is around 79. So small swings shouldn't be too detrimental.

I've had swings of 4 or 5 degrees within a 12 hour period or so and haven't had any problems either. This would usually only happen in the middle of summer though.

It's the chilly temps and super warm temps for long periods that usually concern me. I'd keep mine above 76 if possible.

I keep both display and quarantine at 74. But when I do a large water change (50%) in mine quarantine it drops to 63. No Ill effect on fish. I think because it a temporary drop it doesn't effect anything!
