What is considered an acceptable temp swing for SPS

My tank with sps only moves about 2 degrees 78.4 - 80.4

I have ~3.5 deg swings each day on my 400g system (no heater and no chiller) with no issues.

Every coral is an individual so they'll all respond differently, but you should be able to get away with 5 degrees without issue. Many species of Acropora sp. are even exposed during low tide for 12 hours a day, and are subject to cold fresh water during rainstorms but make it anyway. It might now be ideal for them, but they can take it.

you guys wont believe what my temp swing is
my stuff has gone from 70-89 in one day and everything is fine, BUT this doesnt occur on a daily basis
the temp swing is usually ~2-5 degrees F though depending on the outside temps
oh and i only have 1 acro in there thats doing AMAZING! i also have a lot of monti caps in there too with zoas acans toads shrooms yumas and cloves
on top of that its on a semi open system, ie fresh sw is constantly going into the tank at a ~5gph

Maybe I misunderstood. You sad that 5gal per hour of new saltwater is gong into your tank. That’s 120gal a day and almost 4,000gal a month.
