What is detritus?

Diatoms = algae

Detritus? No clue

it just said online its a pile of waste?

What is it?

Why isn't it skimmed out?

detritus is the dregs of everything, organic & in-organic

Detritus is just gunk that builds up. Think of it like dust but under water

Here is some detritus buildup on a bare bottom tank so you can see how it differs from something like diatoms

A lot of it is coral sand,(noticable on a bare bottom) lost from the live rock, & then tiny particles of food, poop, algae, cyano, everthing

Detritus: A word that was invented by scientists because decent people wouldn't use a term like "schyte" in public discussions.
