What is goin on with my chalices

K so some background on my system. I have a 6ft 125g dt with two 400w radiums with icecap ballasts. I have a mixed reef tons of sps, lps, and zoas/palys. I run a Korallin calcium reactor that I keep dialed in. PO4 is non existant because of my large fuge, bio pellets, and GFO reactor. I have never had nitrates over zero. I have lots of flow in my tank. I have the return pump but its dialed way back im guessing around 1000gph, then I have four Korallia fours on wavemaker timers. Tied in with my dt is my 40g breeder frag tank fed by my chiller which dumps back into my sump. The lighting on the breeder is an evolution 120w led fixture and a four bulb 24w t5. Here is my delemma. I can keep chalices happy in my frag tank, but almost the second they hit the water in my dt they start to recede bad. I put them back in my frag tank and they are happy. I have only been able to get two chalices happy in my dt and they dont have any issues. The only things I can think of is one, flow in my frag tank is almost non existant. Only the feed from the chiller. Second which I doubt, is the temp in the frag tank is consistantly 76 and the dt is consistantly 78. I know its not water quality and the par in my frag tank is higher than my dt. So is this a flow issue in the dt or what is goin on. Thanks for any input.

Also I have the same issues with acans. I can keep them in the frag tank but cant move them to the dt. Blasto's, alveopora, goniopora, favia, trumpets, scoly's, and other lps in my tank do wonderfull.

Chalices are usually harvested around 60' deep so they don't like real white and intense lighting. Sounds like going from MH to LED, back to MH is what is urinating :bigsmile: them off. If you put them in the DT, shade them by sliding them under overhangs.

I know its not light. My led is 12k and all four t5's are 65k its current fixture with parabolic reflectors. They are happy under these lights and there is more par here than under my 400w radiums. I just used a par meter a month or so ago to compare the leds v.s. the halides for my local reef club. I really dont think it is light. But thanks for the reply I really do appreciate it.

You have 12 k and 6500k, Thats white light. You should shade them. Like quoted above. I shaded mine and they have began to recover.

Seriously, please read the thread. They do FINE under the 12k and 65k its the 20k radiums that they shrivel under. I have tested the par. They do better in the HIGHER par tank, the only other things I can think of like I stated was flow and temp. I guess I will just experiment and figure it out.

Just to reiterate one more time. My chalices are doing better in the LOWER K (12k, 65k) HIGHER PAR tank, they are shriveling under the 20k radiums with LOWER PAR. The only difference is there is only about 200gph in the frag tank thats a 40g. In the DT where they are shriveling I have around 6000gph (being a conservative estimate) in a 6ft 125g.
