I recommend running each heater from a separate outlet. I would have the 300W heater turn on at 78.0 and off at 78.3. Have the 500W heater turn on at 77.7 and off at 78.0.

That should give you better temperature stability.
Thanks! It’s working! Here is the last hour-

Awesome, glad you fixed it!

I had a temperature scare too.. My tank hit 74 one night and it worried me, as it was early in the night and was only getting progressively cooler each night.

I found what happened was a combination of things.. My heaters seem to have slipped in temperature.. They're reading temps at higher than actual temperature, to combat this I needed to raise the temperature on the heaters by 4* on one, and 8* on the other. The second problem was a feature in my heaters temselves, to keep them from overheating the water all at once, they turn on and off and slowly raise the temperature. This little feature is to combat temperature shock from a sudden change in temp.

So when the heaters were working optimally, to try and NOT raise temp too quickly, they were falling behind more and more, due to the slip in temperature. So they were fighting an uphill battle, while the weaker of my heaters was more accurate, and the stronger heater was 8* off..

So in not only were my heaters late to the party, but the bigger one was basically non-functional while the little one struggled against the cold.

You wouldn't think a little heater could create a complex issue like this. But it can! So always watch your heaters. If it wasn't for my apex I'd have not known my water hit a low of 74, and was still trending downward.
