What is growing from my Palys?

what are these mini black polyps spreading from my palythoas (same from my red death palys)? They are spreading by a black web type thing. Above the blue palys in the pics below

Cyano bacteria? dinoflagellates? Extremely hard to tell from the pics. Try using a turket baster and blowing it off (as a temporary solution).

Should I try scraping them off the rock or will that just spread it

If its isolated to one rock maybe try taking a toothbrush to them out side of the tank in a seperate bucket. Fortunately I've never had to deal with them.

If you can take the rock out, I would let it dry out completely, soak in bleach then let sit till dry, then if you want to add back in let soak in water with pump and change water every other day or so for two weeks. Then do the same in salt water. If the rock is small or not needed, just remove all together.

thanks. unfortunately its a big rock, but the polyps are on a small portion of it. at this point im wondering if there is a way to target just the small area that the polyps are on (toothbrush, put bleach or something directly on that area?). The tank is running fishless right now due to a round of ich I had, so im wondering if that is adding to the problem (maybe my angel was picking at them).

im also reading someone had success with sport treating with hydrogen peroxide outside the tank

Just my 2 cents, I've tried scraping, kalking, killing in every way imaginable. They come back, they spread. The link I posted gave the best results.

Get it out of the tank ASAP. They can take over and it will be difficult to get rid of.
you can try using super clue if it is a small piece.
but if not, pull the rock.

I would just get rid of the rock and find one to replace it with after seeing it hasnt spread any where else.

thanks guys, ill keep on top of it and try some less invasive solutions first. I think ill try kalking them then covering with glue or epoxy first .. if that fails ill remove the rock and replace or treat it in a bucket with fenbendazole. I have some time before it will be able to leap to a second rock, still isolated

Kalk did not worked for me.
I used kalk paste, it knocked them back, they they will return. I used reef putty and they were able to squeeze through between the rock and the putty. These buggers are very very tough and hard to get rid of. Even fenbendazole at 4mg/gal for 7 days did not work for me. i am still dealing with them.

Do not mess around with these critters. Looks like you have only a small amt. I would try to super clue it or get the rock out.
