What is growing on my sand?

This weird grey hairy stuff is growing on my sand.
What is it and how do I get rid of it, cleaning crew. Just did a 70 to 80% water change and it came back.

Looks to be cyanobacteria.

How old is your tank, Andrew?
What's your water parameters?

Welcome to club cyanobacteria; lot of threads here addressing treatment/eradication strategies. If you have access to a microscope it would be helpful to try to identify what you have.

New tank syndrome. You can vac it out when doing water changes. It will go away when you have stuff in your tank that will compete for light and nutrients. For now enjoy the red color. Soon some green will arrive and you will be ready for xmas.

My tank has been going for about 6 weeks.

Parameters are from the API test kit so not sure how accurate they are.

I didn’t think the red stuff of the rock was the same as the grey stuff on the sand.

I don’t have access to a microscope. If I did what would I look for.
