There is a large white mass growing underneath one of my zoa clusters. All the polyps on that cluster have looked like they are being destroyed for the past few days. They finally shrank to the point where a large white mass was visible underneath. Can anyone tell me what's going on? All of the other zoas are doing fine. It is just the Pandora's with the white blob that are being affected.

The white blob to me looks like a sponge and probably not the reason the zoas arent doing well. How old is the tank? What are you parameter?

Just had a triton test come back, everything normal.

I have 7 different zoanthids clusters and all are fine except that one with the white mass underneath.

whats your nitrate and po4?

That looks like a sort of white sponge to me... not looking good for those zoas.

Sponge would die off if I took the rock out of the water briefly?

Hm. Usually sponge will just grow around the tank but it is taking over the zoas so I would say try anything really. I would say to remove the zoas from the rock but if not experienced you could damage them or get palytoxin everywhere and it could be really bad.

Looks like a sponge. If you are feeding anything with amino acids try reducing it. I had a fairly large purple sponge that melted when I reduced feeding a certain coral food that had alot of amino acids.
