What is happening to my toadstool?

Is my brain coral finally winning the battle? They have been together for the longest time and all of a sudden it seems the toadstool is splitting.

Is this normal splitting behavior or is this a coral battle?

+1 They do that when they "frag" themselves. Totally normal.

Healthy tissue on the piece that's separating would indicate "splitting" which happens naturally, as others have said.

This may have been started by the brain though being so close.
