weekly 20% water changes

this past weekend I realized my water has been extremely cloudy and overnight I had brown algae on my sand bed and glass, I’m thinking diatoms. Any tips on how to clear this?

Sounds like you could benefit from removing your sand and giving it a really good rinse and putting it back in.

This could be done over a few hours on a weekend :)

Woke up to my sand bed having 0 algae on it. Water is still extremely cloudy. Anything I can do in the mean time to clear up the water?

Use GAC, granulated activated carbon, to remove DOC, dissolved organic carbon.

If you have diatoms, consider using silicate removal resin.
