it has never bothered them! (my cleaner shrimp just crawled over them. thats why they are closed) i has taken that out and removed it before! and it is soft! not hard at all??? sorry photobucket is acting up with the rotate part

Could be a sponge maybe, or some type of bacteria. You say it doesn't bother the z's at all? I would still watch it bc it may not look like it is bothering them but what you can see on the outside does not mean something is happening on the inside of the zoa =)
 
I agree with wish, I've had this happen once. If it's a sponge you're in the clear if it's bacteria of fungus most likely that patch will melt. I would check to see what it is then iodine dip. I use lugol's iodine dip it helps.
 
its kinda clear and soft and looks like some sort of tubing! from a small critter or somin! ive removed it before. but no dip! how long and stong on iodine dip? or should i run some tap w on it real quick?
 
It's a white sponge. It will not kill the zoanthids but it will take room so you can pull it off with a tweeser.
