What is irritating my SPS?

Pe mysis did it for me in one tank. Also adding selcon to the food made it even worse. Using any food supplements like selcon maybe?

Strange, mysis has been in my frozen food mix forever, no issues. And no I don’t use any food additives in my mix. I use Hikari brand mysis, spirulina brine, rotifers, coral gumbo and cyclops. For pellets I feed Hikari marine-S pellets. It’s all been the same. Interesting how you saw issues with it before. I’m kind of at a loss with the exception of my Pandora zoanthid theory.

Hi all, the issue does seem to be slightly better but it still happens just less severe and less frequently. I still can’t find any correlation between any event in my tank and the filaments. It’s definitely a head scratcher for me! o_O

So this still happens to my coral. Today was during maintenance and a water change. I’ve also noticed it when I clean my glass. Very strange...

Yea I saw it when I cleaned the glass or basted the rocks or did a water change sometimes or fed certain foods in my last tank. Never saw anything bad happen though, the corals always were colored and looked healthy otherwise. I don’t think it’s always a response to something bad happening and I still basically have the same rocks and type of system I ran then. It mostly stopped when i downgraded to less tanks and completely stopped when I setup this Rubbermaid. Really curious when someone will figure out exactly why this happens. To this day I have never seen it happen from anything bad going on. The only coral I still see it on is a vivids rainbow that I got browned out and is struggling to start new growth.
That’s a great pic of the filaments!

Yeah I don’t know how to feel about them either. I haven’t seen anything necessarily negative but I can’t help but wonder if it’s no good. I wish I knew what the deal was! Lol. Thanks for the compliment luckily they are gone and the coral is back to normal now o_O

You figure it out let me know, I moved this guy a little close to two other corals, so maybe he is trying to kill them with slime?

I have no idea, I wish I did. I’ve had corals grow into each other before with no issues and this is the first tank I’ve ever had issues with.

I’m dealing with the same problem very frustrating trying to pin point what it is. I still haven’t sent out a icp test I’m very tempted to though

Have you changed tour lighting recently? I just switched to 400w ushio 14k bulbs and it looks like a few acros are showing filaments again while they are acclimating to the new light. I am going to just wait it out and hope they go away. Another thing I haven’t done in a long time is add any true ocean rock which I used to do once a year and haven’t done for a while since rock import has been shut down. I am thinking about getting some kp rock to see if it helps because nutrients are not being processed like they used to either. I could be seeing them from the nutrient spike I had as well though.

I changed my lighting from Radion/T5 hybrid to full T5 back in January. I would be surprised to still be seeing filaments almost 6 months in. Interesting idea with the live rock. I started with 100% dry rock (which I now regret) but I did add two small pieces of KP Aquatics live rock recently to spice up the diversity. The tank is small so there really isn’t much room to add more. For me I think feeding the tank and cleaning the glass triggers it the most.

Anything new ideas in this one? Im having the same issues. Waterchange keeps it away for a while
