Would any one be able to tell me what are these stringy things coming out of the back of my starfish?

I believe it might be a filter feeding starfish or one of its arms was injured so they shed them to grow new ones

I have had him for 4 moths. he is alive and moving around. It started as a lesion and these weird anemone type things are coming out of the lesion

It's a Fromia species so definitely not a filter feeder, I don't believe I've seen the insides of that species so they could possibly be that bright color. The white patches on other parts of its arms do suggest it's having some problems. If it started as a small wound and is now that I'd say the star is most likely dying.
