I bought some clove polyps. as the hair algae recedes this is showing up....

That stuff works I hear. Personally I keep peppermint shrimp in my tank. They eat the dang things. But if the shrimp die the anemones do tend to come back. I have 3 in my 36g tank. Love the lil things. Their hilarious.

do they pick at the corals?

Myself I have had no problems with them. I have green star polyps some soft corals mushroom corals and a plate coral. They haven't picked at any of those. I have heard some ppl say they picked at corals but I haven't experienced it. It's good to read up on anything before you pick it for your tank don't take just one persons word on things.
