What is my emerald crab doing?! Pictures posted

I just bought this emerald crab today, and turned my lights down this evening and then saw the belly flap open, but before that there was a clearish brown liquid releasing. Is that him peeing/pooping? Or is this a reproductive thing?? Or is he dying?!

Ok I wasn’t sure! That’s what I thought at first but then when it stood up kind of still and opened its belly flap I was like uhhh what the heck?! It’s been standing there like that for a little bit lol

He was dead within half an hour drip acclimated him with my other crab which is doing just fine- after he “pooped” his belly flap opened up and he stayed that way so I waited a while but he was definitely dead. Was so excited for a little emerald! May try again

Dumb question- but you are 100% certain it wasn’t a molt? Some can look quite real. If you still have it, cut it in half. If there are guts then he is gone

It’s not dumb! I know a lot of people mistake molts for dead ones. I don’t know if they molt when moved ever but I was basically staring at him the entire time and never saw anything come out or move. And nothing since then- I flushed the little body so I didn’t cut it open but I’m 99.9% sure he died

Was this shipped to you? I'd just temp match and drop in the tank in lieu of drip acclimation if so.
