What is on my frag?

Recently got this euphillya from a online auction at one of my lfs. When I opened it I noticed these brown stringy things. Are they alagae or something worse? What do you suggest I do because it doesn't seems as though the coral is opening up as it should and I believe that is the cause.

all my other corals including a hammer across the tank are doing well. Please let me know if I am just panicking also and this is how the coral should look or if it is open and just smaller than I realize

It looks like a strand of algae, can you pull it off with tweezers or something?
