There is blue/green cyano too. It sure looks red to me in those photos. Anyway, it looks exactly like some I have in my tank.

Cyano for sure... It comes in all kinds of colors.

Cyano. You have to find the source of phosphate and nitrates. (Over feeding, not enough water changes, water source) I'm sure there's a few more. But a few large water changes would help. A quick bandaid would be to use chemiclean. It does work, I have used it a few times to help my Zoas and some algae.

Thank you, ya i have .03 ppm phosphate and 0 nitrate, i do 20% change every other week, and feed my clowns a pinch o pellets that they consume instantly every night. Its a small pinch so no left overs. I have a maxpect gyre that is giving me incredible fliw, so it is hard to pinpoint the issue.

What are you checking your po4's with? How long has you tank been up and running?

It just could be a cycling issue with the upgrade. was your Hanna checker on with your old tank?

Naw just bought it for the new build. I bet you are right, I kinda remember something like this on my old tank, just been a while.

Siphon them as much as you can every week.
With a good filtration system and refiugem they will disapear themselves.
No need to be concerned about, but you'd better not to buy new creatures for a while.
Wish you luck.

I agree of the siphoning it out during water changes. Problem with cyano is that testing the water after it has shown up is a bit useless, mainly because it fixes those parameters (hiding it from the water column you're testing).

I've not been too much of a fan of using chemicals like Chemi Clean only because it makes it a bit harder to resolve the problem through more common husbandry, plus it may make finding the source of the cyano more difficult to find.
