Good afternoon everyone!
Quick backstory:
About a month ago I purchased my first Scolymia coral. I looked carefully through the selection at the LFS to make sure I picked the healthiest, and most attractive specimen. After taking it home and acclimating it to my aquarium (float and then dip) I placed it on the sand bed on the outer edge of the rock work. I woke up the next morning to find out a hermit crab decided to snack on the tissue near the mouth, and exposed the skeleton.
Reacting quickly I dipped the coral a second time and placed it back in the aquarium in a low flow spot with the hopes it would heal. Two weeks later the skeleton was covered in new tissue and the coral has been doing great!
Present dilemma:
Last night I fed my Scoly with PE Mysis shrimp, like I usually do twice a week. I covered it with a plastic water bottle that I cut in half to keep my fire shrimp from scoring a free snack. Later that night when I was taking the bottle out of the aquarium, I noticed a strange lump under the tissue of the coral. I quickly snapped a few pictures that I have attached below.
The lump seemed to shrink when I disturbed the water when removing the bottle, but then popped back up. Today I came home when the lights came on and noticed the bump as reduced in size but not fully disappeared. I snapped a couple of photos and also attached those.
The lump almost looks like an air bubble under the tissue, but I am unsure. Has anyone else noticed this with their Scolymia coral, or have any answer to what may have caused this? If you have encountered this, what was the outcome, or is there a solution? Any advice is appreciated!
