What is on my Zoa

Hi all,

I can't believe how much and how often I post on this forum but everyone is so helpful how can I not!
I bought a Zoa and dipped in some coral dip but I wanted to know if anyone could ID what is sharing space on my zoa plug.

I can see something but it’s kinda blurry. I know it’s tricky, maybe try a flashlight to illuminate it better.

Bad pic. Guessing it looks like bubble algae. If so remove frag, remove algae, rinse in fsw, return to tank.

I’ve cut frags with snips. Easy way to be sure.

So here is the a better picture. If this is bubble algae how do I remove it? Tweezers are ok to use? I don't want to damage my Zoa! First coral in the tank! Also what is FSW?

Bubble algae. You can manually remove it outside the tank. Emerald crab may also be a good investment.

Yes that's bubble algea, you can pluck the bubble algea off with a pair of tweezers. The bubbles are surprisingly tough. FSW generally stands for fresh salt water.
Just pull the algea off rinse the plug in saltwater and return to tank.

Yeah, bubble algae but I haven't had a good experience with Emerald crabs but that doesn't mean they are all bad. If it's not all over the place,g I would say just pick it with some tweezers.

I have also had an emerald crab go rogue and start eating corals. The only way I would get another emerald crab would be if I had a lot of bubble algea and he would be sent to my sump once he completed his job.

My emerald crab went rogue very quickly, and began killing snails, harming corals, possibly killing my firefish, and ripping my poor brittle star in half, right in front of me!! He is a monster. He takes care of bubble algae, though, so at least he's a little useful...

Thanks all for the advice its so helpful being on this forum! I am going to avoid emerald crabs for the moment as I have heard many horror stories before
Quick update I got rid of the bubble algae I think but my poor zoas are traumatised. Annoyingly the putty was a bad job from me but hoping they will grow over it in the future.

Quick update I got rid of the bubble algae I think but my poor zoas are traumatised. Annoyingly the putty was a bad job from me but hoping they will grow over it in the future.

That is how the putty looks on all of my frags when I mount them. With time the corals should cover it up.
