What is on this torch?

What is on this torch frag? I’m referring to the white area on the stalk or what ever you call it. I’m about 9 months in this tank and things are going great then I noticed this. I dipped the frag when I got it a few months ago so I’m weirded out a bit.

Looks like a feather duster which would render it harmless
