what is PAR??

PAR, or Photosynthetically active radiation is (very simply put) a measurement of light-radiation in a certain set spectrum.
Even simpler (but slightly inaccurately) put it's light intensity :)

You measure it using a Quantum-meter/PAR-meter, which is a light sensor. These are quite pricy, especially if you consider how seldom you actually "should" be using them. You can for example rent them from BRS if you want to avoid the substantial upfront cost.

Someone else will probably provide a better explanation, but I hope I've answered a few of your question marks :)

thank you! that helps a lot! im guessing there isn't a way to convert Kelvin to PAR then?

PAR.. a very mis-used term.. ;)

quantum meters measure PPFD which is "PAR"/sq meter / second..

you can use "lux" (subset of "PAR") as an estimate w/ careful consideration and a conversion factor.
