It is a diy system to create your own system. Be it monitoring, automation, whatever.

the source for idk, the software? Programming? Don’t know what to call it. Regardless, it’s open source. So yeah. Truly diy.

May you simplify?

I made one with a leviathan board which removes all of the headaches with soldering/ breadboards etc. You pretty much plug stuff into the board and that’s it. It can also control equipment like your heater through a smart wifi strip (Kasa HS-300, etc). The community has gone a long way to make it more intuitive and fast to set up.

You can configure it to send warning text messages to your phone if params like temp/ ph go out of whack, preventing a tank crash while you’re not home. Along those lines you can log into adafruit from anywhere and see the tank params. Adafruit will also email you if it doesn’t get an expected update from the pi (tank lost power, etc). These are all free services.

if you really don’t want any part of tinkering you can do the robotank and get a reefpi ready to go out of the box.
