Sorry, don’t have a picture, but I was blowing off the rockwork while cleaning this morning and found a a little area with a dime size white spongy growth on it. I blew on it real hard with a baster and dislodge it. It was white and stringy and floated around in the water. I netted it and removed it from the tank. Tank is fairly new and all parameters are good. Only algae issue so far has been diatoms. whatever this was was concentrated in one spot till I blew on it. Then it turned into long stringy white snot looking filaments.

any ideas without a picture?

What kind of fish do you have?

Will be impossible without pic under white light.
Can be mucus from Vermetid, sponge, chrysophytes and more

Fish in the tank are 4 Tangs (purple, PB, Hippo and Tomini), 3 chromis, one Bellus angel and one clown. Had two clowns, but one jumped a few days ago. RIP. Other inhabitants are four shrimp and a bunch of snails. Minimum corals at this time. One branching hammer, one Favia and three small Zoanthids frags.

inspection of the area where I found it appears to still have some of it still there. I‘m sure it will regrow and I can try to get a picture of it.

I looked at pictures of possibilities you referenced and the one it most closely resembles is pictures of sponges. I’ll let it regrow and get a picture.

That rules out fish that create mucus "sleeping bags". Keep us updated.

Will do. Found an old thread on reef central showing pictures of a white Criptic Sponge. Pretty much dead on to what I have. So far, that’s what I’m thinking. Pictures when I can get it.
