What is success in this hobby

Success in reefing is:
Wife didn't leave, You still have some money left over to feel the family, You've persuaded your boss that its ok to leave work when you apex emails you, and finally, Your corals are twice as big in your dreams and you NEVER have nightmares about a system crash.

Success for me simply means that I am doing something that makes me happy. To me I don't think it's some magical time period where you sit back and just say oh man am I successful and leave it at that. There will always be new goals, milestones, achievements, aspirations, failures, etc. But as long as I am doing something I enjoy then it is a success.

Success to me is keeping fish for many years and close to their natural lifespan often with many breeding and living the life they would similar to what they have on the reef. That is why I don't keep tangs and large angels because I can't provide what they have in nature esp the kind of area they roam.
With corals its not only keeping them alive but colourful and propagating them . With both that includes providing for their needs with as natural an environment as is reasonably possible and stress free. I consider the above a minimum and not so difficult to achieve.

Good question! For me it is keeping everything healthy while getting a chance to tinker and watch it grow.

Success is taking dead Haitian rock, lifeless Marco rock and adding LIFE to it....coralline algae, sponges, forams, bryzoans, tube worms, starfish, limpets, mushrooms, zooanthids, clownfish egg clutches...
