Just got my ne frag tank running and want to add some bacteria to get it going. What brand is regarded as th best for this?

Dr Tim's one and only nitrifying bacteria. I used it and my tank processed ammonia immediately! Goto. The website and check it out. You can get the kit with ammonia also.

The one that I have found to work fastest is Fritz-zyme Turbo Start 900. It is a refrigerated product because the real and live bacteria don't keep well at room temp. If the product you use is sitting on a shelf it will not be as effective.

Thank you! Checking it out now

I did the Dr. Tim's and I hardly even caught the cycle. It was quick and effective. I used the one fish method he explains in the instructions. I will never do the shrimp method again, it takes far do long i my opinion. But, you know you can put some live rock from your display tank in your frag tank and then place a sponge in the display sump a couple of days then squeeze that sponge into your frag tank. Together these do about the same thing. Then put a hearty fish in to provide the ammonia. I feel like a frag tank needs a fish. Although, I have my frag tank plumbed in with my display tank systems.

I've always just relied on live rock to cycle my tanks. Not sure if it's instant, but doesn't take too long. Are you using any live rock in the frag tank?

I did put 45 lbs of live rock in it. I just figured putting extra bacteria in it would speed up the cycle process.

I️ used the fritz zyme 9 for saltwater only, an my tank is doing great, was having lots of problems before I️ put the fritz zyme 9 in tank with nitrate an ammonia an dealing with lots of algae an now the brown deteris algae is gone an I’m no longer having issues with invertebrates an crustaceans dying, so I️ recommend the fritz zyme an it’s cheaper than fritz zyme 900! An don’t need refrigeration!

I did not realize this thread was resurrected from the grave. If I was to throw a bottle of bacteria into my tank it would be Dr. Tim's. He has a wonderful product line. No Sugar water snake oil BS.

I would throw a dead halibut in there as I am not a big fan of anything that comes in a box unless it is a chain saw
