I just bought a Nikon 5100 camera. Now I'm shopping for a Macro Lense. Does anyone have any suggestions on the overall best macro to purchase $500 to $800ish range?

I'm not sure but with that range you'll get a good one.

Well I think with hat budget the nikkor 105mm anti vibration lens would be the best choice. Unless you're super serious and using the lens daily then I think a used Tamron 90mm is a good choice for half the price....

I bought the nikkor 60mm for 400 and I'm super happy.

My first macro lens was the Tamron 90mm and it is a decent lens. I have added several Nikkor lenses to my collection over the past couple of years, including the Nikkor f/2.8 105mm micro and 40mm f/2.8 micro lenses. The 105mm lens is the best of the three and I use it the most. The 105mm is heavier than the Tamron, but is by far the better lens. I also LOVE the 40mm lens as it is light weight, VERY affordable and super sharp - I use this lens a lot for up-close macro shots.

Well, there's no such thing as the best macro lens since it's a nikon ;) J/K...

But the canon L macro is the best. For nikkon, I'd look into the tamron, or the nikkor 105mm
